The inspiration for this project comes from my observations of European architecture during my travels, particularly Rococo buildings. Although weathered by time, they reveal a beauty that is authentic, soft, and intricate.
Rococo can be understood as a gentle rebellion against authority and order. Through its decorative, emotional, and light aesthetic language, it challenged the classical ideals of rationality, symmetry, and seriousness. I believe this aesthetic still carries relevance today. Drawing on the Rococo attitude that “decoration is meaning,” I aim to counter the overemphasis on “simplicity” and “functionality” in contemporary design. My design approach adopts ornate and free-flowing patterns as a visual language to explore a more irrational mode of creation.
