College London College of Communication Course MA Design for Art Direction Graduation year 2026 Hidden Rhythm explores how fear can be perceived through non-visual senses. By removing sight, participants are guided to experience sound and touch as primary channels of perception. Through real-time heart rate tracking and sensory interaction, the project visualises the body’s hidden physiological rhythms as they respond to uncertainty, tension, and the unknown. The resulting data becomes both a scientific trace and an aesthetic expression—revealing how fear, rather than seen, can be felt and heard. Final work The Hidden Rhythm This booklet documents the visual and sensory research process behind Hidden Rhythm , an experimental study exploring how non-visual senses—particularly sound and touch—shape the perception of fear. It collects fragments of experimentation: the design of tactile interactions, the recording of heart rate data, and the transformation of physiological signals into visual forms through TouchDesigner. Each page traces the rhythm of the body under uncertainty — revealing how invisible emotions and physical responses become visible, measurable, and aesthetic. The publication serves as both a record of process and an extension of the artwork itself — a space where data, sensation, and design converge. The Hidden Rhythm This short film presents the sensory experiment Hidden Rhythm through an immersive narrative of touch, sound, and physiological response. By following participants as they enter a darkened space, touch unknown materials, and react to unsettling audio cues, the video reveals how fear can emerge from the absence of sight. Heart rate data is visualised in real time, forming organic, pulsating shapes that echo the body’s inner rhythm. Rather than depicting horror directly, the film focuses on the subtle tension between curiosity and discomfort—between perception and imagination. The work invites viewers to listen to what cannot be seen, and to feel the hidden rhythm beneath their own senses.
