I am passionate about taking inspiration from the natural environment relevant to my upbringing in rural Australia, thinking with colour and texture in mind and finding it exciting to experiment with patterns as well as focusing on the finer details. I will be progressing onto Textile Design at CSM next year.

“But Paris isn't for changing planes.

It's ... It's for changing your outlook.

For throwing open the windows and letting in ... letting in la vie en rose” – Sabrina (1954)

My project ‘Sentimental Sills’, was inspired by my newfound admiration for seeing flowers on window sills since moving to London. This opened my eyes to seeing how the way windows are displayed illustrates someone’s personality or lifestyle. Whilst travelling, I’ve noticed apartments with ornate fences decorating windows and giving the whole building a sense of personality or even people having shutters or striped awnings for shade.

Throughout this project, my aim was to convey the idea of how individuality within the world brings people together through the example of the similarities and differences within the way people style their window sills as well what windows mean to different cultures.

Final work

My woven outcome with woven ceramic pieces used as window sills for birds which I have illustrated
A close up of my woven outcome and the woven ceramic pieces outlined by wire wrapped in threads
A window scene covered in the print of an illustration of a crochet sample made during the development of my work
  • A close up photograph of the woven ceramic arches and the knitted wire decorating the fabric loops on my outcome
  • Photographs highlighting the different features of my second outcome such as the woven ceramic arches and the knitted wire decorating the fabric loops
