Within my practice I am always trying to develop new hands-on skills to enhance my work. I am constantly inspired by other disciplines and non-creative aspects of my life. I enjoy the challenge of incorporating my interest in printmaking and textiles into my shoe-making work. I am also fascinated by colour and pigment, which is something I explored through the theme of negative space and opposition within my court shoe project.

The broad theme of negative space was the initial inspiration for my court shoe project. I explored the significance of this simple artistic concept within sculpture and nature, which led me to using the silhouette of leaves within my design. I drew my inspiration for the colour palette from the idea of simultanism and the artworks of Sonia Delaunay. I chose colours and materials that were opposing each other in everyway, yet still looked harmonious together. The combination of leather and suede was a continuation of this simultaneous contrast, polar opposite textures to reinforce the opposition of the colours.
