Blessed Are the Cryptic

Jade Yoon

Summary

Final work

Jade is a London-based graphic artist whose work explores the themes of decipherment and interpretation through asemic writing. By stripping recognisable signs and symbols of their original purposes, her work invites viewers to engage with each piece on a personal level, encouraging them to interpret freely without guidance.

In this work, signs and symbols float around like fragments of a lost language, inviting the viewers to engage in an act of decoding that resists clear translation. Each symbol -dislodged from its original purpose- becomes an anchor for individual interpretation, suggesting the layered process by which personal truths are constructed. This work taps into the universal impulse to seek meaning in patterns, even when meaning is obscured. Its monolithic figure with strong colours that suggests a shamanic authority at first glance is a reminder to reveal those claiming to be absolute around us. This contradiction, a visual grammar that feels at once intimate yet elusive, becomes an interpretative dance that captures the human urge and power to make sense of the abstract.
