Shaping Sound is a project researching and inspired by environmental sound and the way it effects our day-to-day life. Sonic Seating is the final piece, designed from a sound composition built using field recordings of the natural environment. I imported the composition into TouchDesigner, where I transformed the audio into a cymatic form reflecting the tone, rhythm, and energy of the sounds. This shape became the inspiration for the seating structure. Made from recycled steel and white oak wood, the piece emphasizes sustainability and durability necessary for outdoor furniture. It has been designed as a multifunctional space where people can sit, eat, play, and hang out together.
