Graduation year 2022

This is a project about marriage and divorce.

It is a response to an enquiry into the process of divorce in several different countries. It was initiated by changes in legislation around divorce in China in 2022 which introduced a 'cooling-off period of three months for couples wishing to divorce. This stimulated my curiosity as to how divorce functions in other countries and, further, how social, religious and legislative structures interact and influence the institution of marriage as well as divorce. I was curious to know if there were any commonalities among countries with respect to these issues.

I have researched and found that the time it takes to get a divorce and the duration of marriage varies from country to country. These things can vary significantly from country to country. However, they are all influenced by government and religion.

Here is the data visualisation for six countries： the USA, the UK, China, Iran, France and Italy. On measures such as predominant religion, the average length of the marriage, the average length of the divorce process, gender rights and the legal age to marry. My hope is that this project will help people understand the country's impact on our marriages and divorces.
