My project centred around semiology and the idea of messages being reduced and packed into iconic symbols and wayfinders. Initially beginning with bathroom stick-figures, I wondered if I could provide these symbols with a new purpose as a work of art, subverting their meaning whilst holding onto much of the shapes and forms from their original functions.

Final work

An installation using acrylic plastic figures that stand freely in front of a backdrop of vibrant symbols and shapes.

This was the result of my final installation, created with acrylic plastic for the sculptures and soft pastels for the backgrounds.

Research and process

A picture of the installation being set up, mostly my process of deciding what I think works best compositionally.

This was mid-way through the setting up of the installation, and the process of deciding the final composition of the work.
