# Project Description REMEMBRANCE, Identity in Uncertainty Gabriela Silva Moncayo Summary Final work I'm Gabriela Silva Moncayo, a Colombian creative working across live arts, art direction, and audiovisual language. Now based in London, I believe artists are driven by the need to communicate and to make intentional decisions in order to do so. My artistic impulses weave together multiple mediums, narratives, and dramaturgies, always rooted in a belief in the possibilities of transformation. College London College of Communication Course MA Design for Art Direction Graduation year 2025 REMEMBRANCE, Identity in Uncertainty weaves together stories of Latinx migrants in London through textile, film, and voice. Blending ancestral craft with contemporary narratives, the project explores how identity is re-stitched through displacement and memory. A hand-stitched tapestry embodies fragments of home and migration, while a documentary short film intertwines interviews and performative gestures, giving visibility to voices often left unheard. Through fabric, sound, and gesture, it questions what it means to belong when your language, culture, and body are constantly in motion. It invites audiences to see textiles not just as craft but as a living archive of resilience, resistance, and connection. Memory as palimpsest The fabric functions as a material archive. The video, as an immaterial archive. When they intersect, they activate the idea of memory as something that is rewritten: voices are temporarily imprinted on the fabric, just as the migratory experience leaves marks, but never in a fixed or permanent way. being here, but also there; being seen, but also blurred. Final work Remembrance, Identity in Uncertainty - A Shortfilm Documentary on Migrant Identity This Documentary short film explores the emotional landscape of migrant identity, delving into the lives of those who have left behind a physical home in search of belonging. Through intimate visuals and honest testimonies, the short film reveals how threads of the past weave together memories of origin with the experience of adapting to a new place. With sensitivity and clarity, it raises questions about memory, uncertainty, and the ongoing search for grounding amidst cultural distance. This piece invites viewers to reflect on what “home” means, how identity is rebuilt in transit, and what remains when the land once known is no longer the starting point.
