Learning to Pray

Profile picture of Freya Shi

I am currently an art researcher-practitioner and lightworker, who have lived across the Atlantic and the Moana~Pacific and beyond three continental borders. My research is transdisciplinary, so is my creative practice. With a focus on both critique and care, my work is a situationist chimera that responds to the context it occupies. I am also a spiritualist astrologer, tarot reader, and yogi who hosts guided meditations with sound healings. I write monthly astrology energy updates on Substack and my podcast explores the intersections of traditional wisdom and philosophy to support holistic wellbeing.

Learning to Pray is an audiovisual representation of my dissertation on contemporary art, indigenous epistemologies, and decolonizing research methodologies, practicing theory and research in its context. In the process of learning to sing a Hawaiian oli~chant, I practice opening oneself and building pilina~relations with others—what I hope to have achieved with my dissertation.
