Foqiang Xu

I am a womenswear designer currently completing my MA in Fashion Design Technology (Womenswear) at London College of Fashion. My practice focuses on exploring how clothing can embody quiet strength through structure, restraint, and controlled form.

My work investigates themes of silent power, soft armour, and personal boundaries, particularly in relation to contemporary women’s daily movement and public presence. Rather than using overt gestures or decorative language, I am interested in how garments can create a sense of psychological protection through cut, volume, and material behaviour.

My approach is led by making. I use pattern cutting and garment construction as primary tools for thinking, allowing ideas to develop through iterative experimentation, toiling, and refinement. Structure becomes a language in itself—subtle, calm, and functional—through which the garment negotiates protection, exposure, and autonomy.
