This project was inspired by writing by the art philosopher Kiyokazu Washida. He is concerned with our idea of 'self' and how the perception of it we each have is skewed. You cannot see all of yourself at once, so how can you be whole. Washida argued that we are moving through a 'fissured existence' and that clothing serves to close the gaps in between. When you put on clothes you are projecting a version of yourself that is tangible. The garments I have made are a response to his commentary.
