I am an Animation student on the Foundation and on the course have learnt that I like to work in stop motion most. I like replicating life size things in miniature and figuring out what materials will be best suited to do this. I like the challenge of replicating something to be as realistic as possible.

My animation is inspired by my own experience of anaemia and the tiredness it causes. Set in a busy kitchen, I make light of the dangers exhaustion can pose. When building my set, I took inspiration from my dad's restaurant, recreating an accurate kitchen, to bring to life the playful narrative style.

Final work

Feeling Fried Animation

This is my final project animation. The set, props, puppets, sound design and foley, as well as the edit, were all created by me.

An animation set with silver counters and sinks as well as props such as knives, chopping boards, and food.

My stop-motion set

I made this set with strong materials, including wood, to ensure a good structure. The furniture and props are made of both wood, air dry and polymer clay, which I then painted with spray paint or acrylic paint.

  • Lemons and tomatoes on a kitchen counter in my set.
  • Tap and a sink with a "Wash your hands sign above it" in my set.
  • Close-ups of the stop motion set. It consists of lemons and tomatoes on a counter, a sink area, and various pots and pans.
Five puppets, standing, confronting the main character junior chef, who has burnt the kitchen down at the end of my animation.

The Puppets

These are my six puppets that I made out of wire and clay, in their costumes which I sewed. This scene took place at the end of my animation.

Research and process

  • The shooting process of my animation. A camera is in the set among the characters.
  • A drawing of a kitchen in black and white with different kitchen equipment.
  • A light yellow menu with Italian food listed out (left) and these miniature menus in the set (right).
  • Character design of six chefs in their uniforms.
  • The creation of stop motion puppets. This includes doing character design, making wire armatures, and then adding clay, costumes, and facial features.
  • Character design and creation of puppets using silicone moulds for the facial features.
