# Project Description Liminality and Familiarity Duru Yurdakul Summary Final work College School of Pre-Degree Studies Course UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design Graduation year 2025 My project explores the theme of Liminality and Familiarity through the investigation of the characteristics of Brutalism and Art Nouveau, two of my favourite styles that happen to be contradictory. The project aims to create a transitional space that resists the typical feelings of disorientation and unease that comes with being in a liminal space. Traditionally, liminal spaces evoke emptiness or nostalgia, often amplifying feelings of being ungrounded. My aim was to challenge that narrative by designing a space that acknowledges transience while offering warmth and balancing harsh and delicate.
