# Project Description Lady Girl Connie Hickman Summary Final work Hello, i'm Connie. I'm a multi- disciplinary artist, play worker and community enthusiast. Over the course of my time at CSM my practise was playing in the mud...Literally. Questioning our relationship with the land and how we relate to her through memory, fantasy and our physical bodies. I had a fruitful year off in 2023-24, stumbling into many courageous community engaged organisations. Such as London based community gardens and an adventure play organisation. College Central Saint Martins Course BA (Hons) Fine Art Graduation year 2025 Lady Girl is an ongoing, site-responsive performance project that explores themes of ecological grief, memory, displacement, and care. Emerging as a fictional yet deeply personal figure, Lady Girl drifts through scarred and transitional landscapes—abandoned quarries, ancient woodlands, demolished mills, and urban developments—carrying bed sheets and unresolved longings. Rooted in improvisation, Lady Girl’s actions are playful, awkward, and mournful—offering subtle, often absurd rituals of care in places marked by human impact. Through her, the boundary between self and character, performance and presence, becomes blurred. The project reflects on how we inhabit a world in ecological crisis, and how small gestures might hold space for both grief and transformation. Lady Girl is not a hero, but a witness—her wanderings evoke the unresolved waiting of Beckett’s Waiting for Godot , where the act of searching becomes the meaning itself. Final work Lady Girl: The Quarry Lady Girl: The Quarry follows a lone, figure as she moves through the remains of a disused quarry in Devon—once a site of extraction, now a space of quiet ruin. Lady Girl (fails to find home) Lady Girl (Fails to Find Home) follows a wandering figure as she searches for belonging along the edges of ancient bluebell woodlands and moorland threatened by housing development. Lady Girl return to Cotlake Hill Lady Girl Returns to Cotlake Hill sees the character revisit a landscape tied to personal memory and grief. Lady Girl performs quiet, ritual-like gestures that blur the line between mourning and connection. The film reflects on cycles of return, loss, and the deep entanglement between land, memory, and the body. Peekaboo I see you Part of the series 'these socks are made for dancing.'
