I grew up in the UK with multi-racial parents, which exposed me to cultures beyond my own. I aim to create garments with a distinct style that tell a larger story, yet allow wearers to integrate them into their personal narratives. My project, ‘Apartness,’ draws inspiration from my mother’s experiences growing up in South Africa during Apartheid.

My aim is to inspire a push towards a society with fewer racial inequalities, where individuals aren't judged by their status or background. Despite the end of Apartheid, significant racial disparities persist in wealth, education, and resource access, not just in South Africa but in many affluent nations globally.

Ultimately, "Apartness" seeks to diminish the stigma linked to one's background, fostering a more equitable and understanding world.
