# Project Description Gothic Liberation Chaehyun Lee Summary Final work College Central Saint Martins Course Graduate Diploma Fashion Graduation year 2025 Contemporary Gothic style exists as a simulacrum, endlessly replicated and transformed without an original source. As a result, it is often reduced to mere aesthetic imagery, losing its philosophical depth. To break free from this cycle, I explore the integration of Brutalism’s raw materiality and anti-decorative approach into Gothic fashion. By incorporating elements such as cement-infused textiles, distressed leather, and exposed seams, I experiment with silhouettes and textures that merge Gothic sensibilities with Brutalist material honesty. Moving beyond conventional Gothic ornamentation, this project seeks to reimagine Gothic not just as a style but as an evolving concept—one that reclaims its essence without falling into repetition.
