Built Upon Repetition is an instillation about the practice of repetition in printmaking. An homage to the founding of printmaking being a tool to create as many copies of text and images as possible to educate the public. The interior of the house will be used to hold three workshops on how to make linocut stamps throughout the duration of the degree show. Stamp making being a very accessible, quick and inexpensive way of understanding and getting into Linocut.
Five core designs makeup the exterior of the house, in a way that mimics Victorian cladding. 360 screen printed prints cover the entire structure, secured using magnets and magnetic tape for the walls and bull clips on the roof for more support.
The prints are originally Linocut prints using multiple unique Lino plates of found imagery from vintage magazines, punk zines, 1970s queer fetish magazines, 1930s-1950s film text stills, and 1940s tattoo flash sheets. Once I settled on the five combinations of images I was pleased with, I then went to screen print where I made 80 copies of each print. 400 total prints were made 360 were used.
