This research explores the decolonial methodologies present in Kateb Yacine’s Mohamed Arfad Valiztek (1971), focusing on post-independent Algeria. Through an analysis of Yacine’s use of language, structure, and visual elements, this essay examines how the play critiques colonial legacies and challenges Western theatre conventions. Using decolonial theorist’s like Walter Mignolo, Frantz Fanon, and Jean-Paul Sartre, it argues that Yacine’s piece reframes post-colonial identities and historical narratives. Additionally, it brings to light the challenges of archival access and gatekeeping within theatre and post-colonial research, proving the importance of the play within ongoing decolonisation struggles.
