College Central Saint Martins Course MA Industrial Design Graduation year 2025 Inscape is a modular emotional mapping toolkit designed to support individuals through the often complex and deeply personal process of healing after a breakup or emotional transition. Its aim is to support individuals in externalising emotions and thoughts that may feel overwhelming when kept in the mind. By writing, drawing, and physically connecting them, these experiences become more tangible and manageable. Thus, it allows individuals to identify the problems they are struggling with and the emotions they are trying to process, and to understand what they are feeling and why. Although awareness of psychological wellbeing and emotional health has grown in recent years, relationships and especially breakups have become more challenging and traumatic. Relational breakdowns are more frequent and emotionally intense. Healing process from such experiences is not linear; the brain often perceives a breakup in much the same way as the loss of a loved one, and the resulting grief can feel just as intense. Moreover, each person’s journey is shaped by their upbringing, cultural background, and personal history. Developed through interviews with psychologists from various disciplines and individuals who have experienced difficult breakups, Inscape includes interactive acrylic tiles, prompts, and writing tools to help users externalize their emotions and reflect on their inner journey. By offering an open and adaptable format, it embraces the individuality and diversity of healing experiences, encouraging each person to move through their process at their own pace, in a creative and meaningful way. Final work The final form of Inscape took shape as a modular emotional mapping toolkit, composed of hexagonal acrylic tiles, cards, papers, envelopes and white board pens. The reason for using acrylic is both to ensure continuous use and to provide users with a multi-purpose open space. Inscape invite users to externalise, rearrange, and visually construct their emotional landscapes, engaging in a dialogue with themselves and their experiences. The toolkit does not demand interpretation or outcomes; instead, it enables a sense-making process that is gentle, reflective, and open-ended.
