The Poly Body is an endeavor to sublimate amorphous and digital manifestations of the body with knitwear advancements. My work focuses on the application of cellulose-based polyester and recycled polyester yarns in knitwear and printing. I developed a material designed to shift and shape on the body using digital and industrial machine techniques. My research draws from Posthuman Feminist theory and aims to proactively advance polyester alternatives in textile design.

Re-fitting
This piece demonstrates the potential application for transformable knit in wearable garments. Shaping can be applied to specific areas to change the fit or hold modulated forms; with the ability to hold shape by steaming the fabric, or returning to its original state by pulling in the opposite direction.
Micro to Macro
Studying how tension changes the shape of recycled and bio-polyester materials to challenge perceptions, and shape new forms of the body.
Color Theory
Investigating the color effects when sublimated images are applied to the knit. The neon-green recycled polyester translates as lines of code running through the fabric. Building on the connection to digital materiality.
Uncanny Self
Playing with simulacra, and looking at the body as a tool; the sublimated self image becomes distorted and fragmented through the same technique.
Research and process
Pull Me Apart
Demonstrating the pliability of the fabric, the construction uses laying-in to create an opposite surface tension or weft within the knit, allowing it to be distorted and hold shape. By focusing on the use of biomass-based polyester and recycled polyester yarns, it supports regeneration and circularity in polyester recycling systems.
