When masking becomes a sustained practice, over time it can harm mental and physical well-being. This work sheds light on the multifaceted roles masks play, aiding in camouflaging and navigating the intricate terrain of a neurotypical world, as well as mirroring the external expectations imposed on those on the autism spectrum by society. By employing satirical humour, it disrupts the prevalent misrepresentation of ASD in mainstream culture, challenging the oversimplification and fetishisation of neurodiverse people. It invites viewers to question societal norms that perpetuate bias, while simultaneously encouraging individuals to openly express their identity without fear or shame for being different.
