A Living Lexicon is a service that aims to help service designers create regenerative interventions and projects within complex systems like health, transportation, and food. Using terms and questions gathered from professional designers, the service enables them to learn from and be inspired by each other’s experiences and expertise.
The project seeks to answer the question:
How might we support service designers in designing regenerative services within complex systems?
For the purpose of research and prototyping, the service was developed within the UK context. The project focuses on mid-senior and senior designers working for impact-oriented organisations, such as public departments, local councils, NGOs, and design studios that partner with these organisations.
Throughout the six-month design process, the research aimed to understand designers’ professional context, including their organisational and team context. The goal was to uncover their approaches to creating and implementing regenerative interventions within complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
A Living Lexicon was developed based on insights drawn from designers’ concrete experiences. The concept was prototyped, tested, and refined through feedback cycles with designers.
