College School of Pre-Degree Studies Course UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design Graduation year 2025 The four horsemen are the the finality to humanities reign, as they mark the begging of gods judgment upon the world. However, The Empire where the Sun Never Sets, conquers the head of Conquest as a sign of its power and reign over the realm. Not knowing the shadows of the other three horses, which will paint the globe in blood, through Famine, War, and Death. My Project focuses on the second wave of Imperialism, set between 1870 - 1910. It is marked by Europe's rapid expansion around the globe as it established colonies across the continents. Most notably Africa, who suffered under the event known as "The Scrambling of Africa" which focused on the exploitation and ravaging of local people, through all sorts of cruel and unethical practises. Among these European powers was the British Empire, The Empire where the Sun Never Sets, who's rapid expansion established itself as the global power of that time. Controlled and observed by the watchful eyes of Queen Victoria Herself. What my project aims to explore, is the power held by Empire (with an special emphasis on the British Empire), and how the causes of the past affected the fragile nature of relations seen in todays politics, observing them through a complex narrative of historically thematic art movements (like impressionism and art nouveau) and symbolic motifs (like poppies and the horsemen).
