# Project Description Restless Machine Anya Ilczenko Summary Final work Anya is a multidisciplinary textile designer based between East Anglia and London. She is interested in combining knitwear with metalwork, and in turn proposing how waste metal can be repurposed within a fashion context. The surrounding landscapes and histories of the Suffolk and Essex countryside continue to inspire Anya's design process, and she enjoys investigating themes that explore her identity. College Central Saint Martins Course BA (Hons) Textile Design Graduation year 2025 This collection examines the dynamic between man and machine developed through the act of labour and industrialisation. Taking inspiration from the Vorticism movement of the early 20th century and Mire Lee’s Open Wound installation, ‘Restless machine’ explores the physical and emotional connection that humans form through this dynamic. In turn, proposing how the human body itself also becomes a tool of labour. Examining the decaying mechanical parts and farm machinery that surround my father’s workshop, ‘Restless Machine’ also aims to highlight the collapse of local industry. Observing the abandoned metal features and parts, I have considered how this waste can be repurposed and utilised within my collection and the wider fashion context. I have achieved this through developing dye techniques that use found metal sheeting and copper patina.
