Our world is absurd and complicated; I would like to try and understand it a bit better. Stories and images have given me the chance to begin exploring it. This project's subject matter is important and one deserving of a central space in conversations. What began as an exploration turned into a denunciation. Although I have a lot to learn technically, I'd like to discover further the many ways of creating visuals in order to tell tales of our vast world and speak about things impacting it right now.

Through this project, I had hoped to criticise warfare. The aim was to create impactful visuals that denounce the inhumanity & overwhelming scale of war. By attracting an audience such as those passing by on the street, the ambition was to encourage the public to think actively about this problematic subject.

In view of these goals, I created 2 large posters using multiplying of simple imagery in the context of printmaking.

Final work

3 posters. One is red covered in gravestones and large white eyes at forefront. Other is pattern of faceless soldier. Final one is tank with title.
4 identical prints of faceless characters going to war and dying.

Research and process

  • Lone faceless soldier atop mountain of corpses, paratroops rain down. Toy soldiers photographed. Stamp of a faceless soldier.
  • image from the project
  • Soldiers' faces decomposed. Toy tank enlarged through photography.
