The COBISH! Seat

A seating concept centred around notions of grounding and how we connect to nature within our built world. Cast in ‘ COBISH!’, a material composite based on cob (an ancient, natural building material made from sand, clay and hay), the seat is Clews’ response to the question of how we might create greater harmony between us, our natural world, and our interior environments.

Functionally, this furniture piece can transform any flat surface into comfortable seating. The material has a pebble-like textural quality while visually imitating a raw and rugged surface.

Conceptually, this design looks at the relationship between our built and natural environments. By rethinking traditional furniture forms and considering material relationships, Clews hopes to inspire a deeper connection to nature within our increasingly industrialised experience of modern life.

Terracotta finish

COBISH! is a material made from straw, sand, and clay, the material development process has allowed for several variations of finish. For example, adjusting clay content can allow for variation in pigment saturation. In this image the material composite contains a high quantity of terracotta, providing a dark reddish pink colour.
