Final work

Fascinated by the interaction between humans and their natural environments, my work utilises a neutral colour palette and detailed handmade textiles to reconnect the viewer with the beauty of the natural world.

This project stemmed from my fascination with Pagan rituals; how these communities use song, dance, and celebration to connect to each other and to their natural environment. Researching these communities strengthened a personal concern over an increasingly apparent disconnection between humans and the natural world. Observing the suppression of our primal instincts, my work examines what humanity might look like in its rawest state, when material desires and societal restrictions are removed.

Using materials collected entirely from second-hand sources, I encourage a return to nature and an appreciation for natural resources such as wool fibres, sticks, and raffia. My project therefore aims to evoke a sense of nostalgia in the viewer, highlighting the beauty in being wild and uninhibited in a society that isolates us from the fundamental things that make us human.
