The concept for my Final Major Project (FMP) is based on the theme of 'the diversity in Indian folktales.' This theme encompasses a wide range of topics, especially those related to religious practices and cultural narratives. I aim to explore various aspects of these folktales to decide on a specific focus for my project, ultimately shaping the direction of my design. To gather information, I will research online resources, including poems and texts, as well as visit art galleries and exhibitions like the Tate and the Barbican for inspiration. I’ve already begun this exploration. Additionally, I will use both internet resources and books to broaden my understanding of the topics I’m investigating. The project will focus on the representation of cultural deities through traditional arts, utilizing techniques like embroidery, fabric painting, and screen printing. These materials are chosen for their softness and flexibility, which makes them ideal for creating artwork that can be displayed as hanging pieces. The aim is to create a rich tapestry by combining mixed media, with an emphasis on intricate embroidery and painting. At its core, the project will explore themes of symbolism, idealism, and narrative storytelling, all deeply connected to spirituality and cultural expression. By experimenting with texture and color, I intend to enhance interactivity, making the work appealing to younger audiences by fostering meaningful engagement through visual storytelling. This approach will require resources such as fabric, thread, paint, and printing tools and will involve refining my technical skills in these areas to create a cohesive and dynamic final piece.
